Do you heat with wood? A lot of Vermonters do, and woodpiles are a sort of art form. I painted this chilly winter scene of a snowy wood pile, splitting ax and a cardinal with watercolor and gouache.

I have hand lettered this quote: "A Man Looks on his Wood Pile with a kind of Affection." I know many a man, and quite a few women, who feel this way about their source of cozy winter warmth.

The quote is from Henry David Thoreau. I add hand painted silver details to the ax and lettering on each print.

The image size is 6" x 11" on 11" x 14" heavyweight, Fabriano, acid free, watercolor paper.

This is an edition of 50. I inscribe each print with the title "Woodpile," the edition number, and my signature in pencil. If you'd like the print personalized to someone special, please ask in the comment area.
